A fabulous fake is something that is unabashedly inspired by something luxurious and gorgeous. It does not pretend to be anything that it is not, because a fabulous fake is special enough to stand on its own merit (unlike just a plain fake or a low quality knock-off). These are some ideas for ways to use fabulous fakes to make your wedding more glamorous without breaking the bank.
Of course, the first thing that comes to mind for fabulous fakes is jewelry. Most brides cannot afford the diamond necklaces, bracelets, and earrings that are featured in the bridal magazines. That is perfectly fine; the editors of those magazines know that those pieces are an unobtainable luxury for the average bride. The point of showing them is for inspiration. Once you get a sense of the designs that you like, you can go about shopping for the perfect bridal jewelry for your wedding. Crystal bridal jewelry is especially popular with brides because it has all of the sparkle of costly diamonds, without the high price. Not only is crystal jewelry a great way for the bride to add glamor to her bridal gown, but it can be handcrafted in some fabulous colors for the bridesmaid jewelry gifts. That is something that diamonds cannot do, at any price.
With winter around the corner, that brings us to another fabulous fake for weddings: faux fur. Many brides would not choose to wear real fur even if they could afford it, but faux fur is a great way to add class and drama to the wedding without hurting your conscience or your budget. A white faux fur shrug looks magnificent draped over the bride's gown at a winter wedding. It can be tied with a wide satin ribbon, or secured with a chic rhinestone brooch for a touch of sparkle. Faux fur can be used in many other ways, as well. One of my personal favorites is to have the flower girl at a Christmas wedding carry a white faux fur muff with holly pinned to it instead of a basket of flower petals.
Flowers can be one of the most costly parts of the wedding decor, and this is an area where many brides look for ways to trim expenses. The results can be charming or disastrous. Remember that a fabulous fake does not pretend to be something that it is not. This is why fake silk flowers are so unappealing; when the guests realize they are not real blossoms (and they will!), their first reaction will be "ick - how tacky". But there is a great alternative to real or silk flowers: paper flowers. Handcrafting paper blossoms for your wedding is a very Martha Stewart thing to do (in fact, you can get instructions on her website), and they can be just adorable. Paper petals can be used for everything from the bouquets, to the centerpieces, to the ceremony decor, depending on how large a project you care to take on. The effect of paper flowers is very sweet, and best of all, you are not limited in which colors you can choose, unlike real flowers.
So you see, it is possible to "fake it" in a way that will add style and elegance to your wedding. In fact, when done well, fabulous fakes can be even better than the real thing.

How do I dress up this dress?I bought a really nice gown on a sale rack (originally $185, got it for $15) Its an Alfred Angelo A-line satin floorlength gown with spaghetti straps and a scoop neckline. Its color is indigo and Its really really super plain. There is absolutely no embellishment on it at all. I was thinking about getting a beadazzler and adding rhinestones to the neckline (and possibly the hem) but I'm not sure that's going to be enough. I want to wear it to a Military Holiday Ball this winter. Do you think a black velvet bolero jacket or shrug would look good with it? Maybe something faux-fur? Its just such a plain gown and I want to look smashing next to my husband in his sexy classAs. Any ideas?
